Periodontics in Calgary
Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that is concerned with your gums and the tissues that support your teeth. We provide services to prevent infections and discomfort resulting from periodontal issues.
Frenectomy
The attachments between your lips and your gums, or beneath your tongue, are called frenula. Sometimes the frenula can be too tight, and it can cause discomfort and other issues. We treat this by cutting the tissue to relieve the tension.
Scaling and Root Planing
Scaling and root planing are treatments for gum infections and disease. Scaling is the removal of plaque and tartar from the teeth, including above the gum line. Root planing is a procedure where we smooth the surface of the tooth roots to reduce areas where plaque can build up and cause irritation to your gums.
Extractions
The goal in dentistry is to preserve your natural teeth, but sometimes it becomes necessary to extract a tooth to protect your other teeth. Extraction can be needed if a tooth become impacted or is at risk of impaction, if your teeth are crowded, or if a tooth is badly damaged or decayed. When a damaged tooth is extracted, we will recommend options to replace the tooth, such as a dental bridge or an implant.
