Dental technology has evolved at an astounding rate in recent years. These technological advances allow dentists to diagnose and treat numerous dental problems with remarkable efficiency. At Core Dental, we are pleased to provide patients from Calgary, Red Deer, and nearby areas with technologically advanced treatments for TMJ dysfunction, periodontal disease, and other dental issues.
At his office in Calgary, Dr. Orth uses digital radiography to help detect TMJ disorders, fractured teeth, structural deficits of the bone, teeth, and gums, and other dental problems. Digital radiography is a revolutionary diagnostic tool since it can detect hidden problems while causing a fraction of the radiation of traditional X-rays. Using digital radiography, Dr. Orth can produce X-ray images in just a few seconds without photo film or development. He can then computer-enhance the images to focus on problematic areas, allowing for extremely precise diagnoses.
The intra-oral camera is helpful in treating numerous dental health problems since it provides a “movie” of the inside of the mouth during treatment. The tiny camera fits inside the patient’s mouth and projects images onto a computer screen for the patient and dentist to view. This enhances Dr. Orth’s ability to treat problems with great precision. In addition, many patients who visit our Calgary practice for TMJ care and other treatments find that the camera images help them feel involved in and informed about their dental treatment.
Now, even patients with extreme dental anxiety can pursue much-needed dental treatment, thanks to sedation dentistry. Dr. Orth has seven years of experience with sedation dentistry. This remarkable pain management technique allows patients to take a small pill prior to their appointment and then doze through the procedure in a relaxed, yet aware, state. Sedation dentistry takes much of the anxiety and discomfort out of receiving dental care. In fact, patients from as far as Red Deer contact our office for TMJ treatment and other services since they know they can receive dental care with relaxing sedation dentistry. Many individuals contact our Calgary office because their teeth have been damaged or are missing as a result of TMJ disorder, an accident, a disease, or other cause. These patients can often have their smiles quickly restored, thanks to CEREC® technology, which allows Dr. Orth to craft beautiful dental crowns and dental bridges in one office visit. Patients who receive CEREC® restorations do not have to wait weeks for a laboratory-crafted restoration; instead, they can leave our office with attractive tooth restorations after a single visit!
Laser periodontal treatment, or LPT, is transforming patients’ experiences of gum disease treatment. Unlike traditional periodontal care, LPT does not involve a scalpel or sutures. Instead, it utilizes a state-of-the-art dental laser to excise diseased tissue. The heat from the laser seals the blood vessels, which minimizes bleeding during and after the procedure, promotes a quick recovery, and minimizes swelling.
If you are experiencing symptoms of periodontal disease – red, swollen, bleeding gums, loose teeth, or chronic bad breath – early intervention is key. Dr. Kim Orth can provide the treatment you need with minimal discomfort; contact Core Dental today to schedule a consultation.
Dr. Kim Orth provides laser cosmetic gum contouring for patients concerned with “gummy” smiles. The dental laser allows Dr. Orth to remove excess gum tissue with great precision while minimizing bleeding and post-operative discomfort. The treatment is so effective that most patients can leave our office and return to work the same day.
If you live in Calgary, Red Deer, or another community near Core Dental, you can receive TMJ treatment, laser gum contouring, and other options for beautiful smile makeovers. Contact Core Dental today to schedule a consultation.
Several types of mouth guards can prevent teeth grinding, clenching, and other causes of a TMJ disorder. An NTI splint is one such appliance, available for residents of the Calgary and Red Deer areas seeking relief from painful TMJ joint disorders. This tiny plastic sleeve fits over a couple of the top, front teeth, allowing only slight contact between the top and bottom teeth. NTI splints keep the back teeth completely separated, move the jaw into a more relaxed position, and inhibit clenching and grinding.
Air abrasion is an alternative to drilling that can eliminate surface-level tooth decay, remove old composite restorations, prepare a tooth for dental bonding or sealants, and eliminate superficial stains. The air abrasion device is similar to a mini sandblaster; it aims tiny particles (made of silica, aluminum oxide, baking soda particles, or a mixture) at the targeted area. The particles etch away the problematic tooth enamel, which is then suctioned away. Air abrasion treatments are safe, effective, and relatively quick. They generate little to no heat, sound, or vibration, and leave the majority of the tooth structure intact.
